  • Elevating communities through empowerment, Black Soil Nursery is committed to providing essential comprehensive education and training to aspiring birthworkers in Hale, Perry, and Marengo Counties. Our mission is to foster inclusive, action-oriented, and culturally sensitive practices - aiding in increasing the capacity of perinatal and reproductive knowledge and quality of access to competent support throughout the Blackbelt areas of Alabama.

  • Black Soil Nursery’s Board of Directors have diverse backgrounds, who predominately originate or have connections to the Blackbelt regions of Alabama.

    Collectively, our various perspectives of reproductive justice and advocacy work, community outreach, healthcare, nutrition, and child advocacy support. Shared and uncommon experiences provide a safe space for the community and Black Soil Nursery partners.

  • Dedicated to fostering well-being throughout the Blackbelt communities in Alabama, Black Soil Nursery focuses on optimizing health outcomes for families by providing access to continuous support, that includes but is not limited to prenatal, antepartum, postpartum, and breastfeeding support, as well as healthy food initiatives, and childcare advocacy.

    With a focus on these communities, Black Soil Nursery strives to bridge gaps in healthcare access, by providing comprehensive resources that empower lives by promoting informed choices and resilient health outcomes.

  • Community success is measured by improved healthcare outcomes for clients and babies, improved quality and accessibility for reproductive support, and client satisfaction.

    For aspiring birthworkers, success is measured by strengthening community partnerships, sustainability, and maintaining long-term peer relationships and support.
